Timeline
June/July
- Pledge the sponsor students (2 – 12 students) from your community and designate funds for camp in your club budget
August
- Schedule a RYLA Presentation or discussion at your club
- Pledge the sponsor students (2 – 12 students) from your community
- Appoint a RYLA Chairperson for your club and identify a high school contact
- Send Club Commitment form to RYLA Board
- RYLA Chairperson connects with the RYLA Board
- Work with other clubs to insure all high schools are covered and two clubs are not recruiting from the same high school
September
- RYLA Chairperson and the high school contact promote RYLA to students
October – February
- Students apply for the award online at www.ryla5150.org
- RYLA Board will inform your club about students from your area who have applied
- Hold an interview for student applicants
- Interviews should be completed by the second week in February
- Share your input with the RYLA Board
March
- RYLA Board will notify students and sponsoring clubs of selected students and share bus transportation information (along with alternate student information)
- The Club’s RYLA Chairperson will make sure transportation to and from the drop-off and pick-up site is arranged for their students. If a parent or guardian can’t drop off a student at the bus stop, then the sponsoring club is responsible for having a member take the camper to the bus stop, along with picking them up at the end of camp
- Call the student/parent 1-2 weeks before camp to ensure that any questions that might arise are answered
- Honor your RYLA candidate at a club meeting before camp
- If a camper is unable to attend, inform the alternate of the available space
April
- RYLA begins the morning of Friday the 5th and ends the afternoon of Sunday the 7th
- Ensure your club’s students have transportation to and from the RYLA bus stops
- Schedule your RYLA camper to give a presentation to sponsoring/local club & invite parents and high school contacts to this meeting
- Show the dynamite videotape of last year’s program
